Under general direction, is responsible for performing technical and administrative work related to the evaluation and administration of claims for City employees injured on the job. Ensures compliance with Texas Workers’ Compensation procedures and insurance adjusting principles. Working conditions are in an office and outdoor environment. Exercises no supervision. Work Location 100 W Houston San Antonio. TX 78205 Work Schedule 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates all Workers’ Compensation Claims with City departments, the Third Party Administrator and the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC).
Receives and analyzes notifications of changes in policies, procedures, legislation and regulations to the Workers’ Compensation Act.
Coordinates and assists in the modified duty process to include reviewing, approving, and placing employees in the program.
Prepares and coordinates correspondence, notices, and/or letters relating to claims, as well as communicates with departments regarding employee claims status.
Conducts and assists with training on workers’ compensation issues for other departments as well as within the Workers’ Compensation Section.
Acts as liaison between departments, adjusters, and medical providers.
Collects, compiles, and prepares data related to line of duty and modified duty program and forwards reports to departments upon request.
Assists in training and presentations on work assignments specific to related topics.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) years risk management experience.
Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
Customer service experience preferred

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Law.
Knowledge of training methods, procedures, and techniques.
Knowledge of claims investigation, techniques and procedures.
Skill in using Microsoft Office software applications. Ability to maintain accurate files and claim records.
Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
Ability to develop clear and concise written reports.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, management, and the public.
Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
