Function:: The Maintenance Foreman will have working supervision of the Trade & Craft and other Maintenance personnel; will coordinate activities of workers engaged in machining/fabricating metal parts and tools; setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery, equipment, piping, buildings, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:: Delegates responsibility for the direction, planning, and scheduling of Maintenance personnel and equipment on their shift in the most effective manner in order to provide for maximum utilization of personnel and equipment. Studies production schedules and prepares estimates of worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Coordinates ordering of materials as required for timely completion of projects. Checks work of personnel assigned to insure quality standards are being met and for timely completion of assignments. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the shop, department, and work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems as well as assists workers in solving work problems. Maintains time and production records. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate repairs with the activities of individual departments. Keeps the Department Superintendent informed of any issues pertaining to quality and effectively recommends action to resolve or remedy such issues. Coordinates with other supervisors to manage manpower and cover open jobs created by vacations or report-offs. Is knowledgeable of the Union contract. Administers such contract to maintain a good working relationship with the Union. Counsels and disciplines as required in accordance with the Labor Agreement and/or Company policies. Develops and trains all personnel within the area of responsibility. Keeps Department Superintendent informed of all major repairs or breakdowns. Coordinates with Department Superintendent in holding regular meetings with crewmembers. Administers all work rules, all safety work rules and practices established by the Department Superintendent and the Alliance Plant Management. Make recommendations on improvements in the area of safety management. Administers all performance and housekeeping guidelines established by the Department Superintendent and the Alliance Plant Management. Communicates to subordinates and the Department Superintendent of trends, events or occurrences that will impact the operation. Maintains departmental labor costs and expenses within the guidelines established by the Department Superintendent. Performs monitoring of the state of equipment (e.g., wear, lubrication, etc.) and checks equipment for preventative maintenance requirements. Maintains preventative maintenance schedules. Performs other duties as required. Education and/or Experience:: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Five to seven years of related supervisory experience and/or training. Supervisory Responsibilities:: Directly supervises 15 to 30 Trades & Craft and maintenance employees in the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. : Language Skills:: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills:: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability:: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Skills and Abilities:: Must be computer literate and able to learn and use HP programs such as e-mail, established programs, etc. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:: Must possess a valid driver’s license for business travel, such as, customer visits, to attend required meetings, seminars, etc. Work Environment:: : -The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
