Job Description :
FLACS seeks a dynamic Middle School Social Studies educator to teach our 7th and 8th-grade scholars. The primary responsibilities of the teacher are to ensure that students achieve and/or exceed the New York State Standards. Other responsibilities include delivering a high-quality, rigorous, and effective curriculum; planning, implementing, and reflecting upon all aspects of instruction in the assigned areas in order to realize the school’s mission; and developing all students’ positive character habits centered around the school’s values.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work in a collaborative team teaching environment or individual classroom setting
Engage students in active learning
Integrate technology into core classroom instruction
Use assessment data to modify and improve student learning
Utilize an online student system to track student progress through competencies and keep up to date assignments for students
Contribute to program design and implementation
Participate in all staff programs and academic planning, implementation, and evaluation
Work collaboratively with other staff and teachers daily
Enforce and uphold school policies and culture
Communicate effectively and maintain consistent relationships with students, colleagues, and families
Any additional responsibilities assigned by Administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 1 year of experience in middle school classroom instruction in the specific subject area
Experience in integrating technology into classroom instruction
Experience with curriculum design
Background in urban education serving a broad range of students
Experience in delivering Common Core-aligned instruction
Expert in subject area; Social Studies
At least one year of teaching in an urban environment
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
Valid NYS Teaching Certificate Preferred
Receptiveness to ongoing coaching and evaluation
Energetic, motivated, innovative, prepared
Ambitious, entrepreneurial mindset committed to helping develop the components and culture of the school environment
Evidence of excellence when working with middle school students
Wide-ranging intellectual and educational interests
Excellent communication skills
Team player, the ability to work collaboratively
Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required
